SAMPLE OF THE SCRIPT
‘TWAS THE NIGHTMARE OF DRUGS
(Student is asleep on stage with a blanket and pillow. Facing the audience he should look asleep. The people in the first scene tiptoe o to stage and set up a table, a beer cans or bottles and glasses. They should all the time be shh the audience so that they don’t wake the sleeper up. Have one of the scene students drop a glass and the sleeper groan and change positions so that he still faces the audience. Then have them quietly pour the pretend beer into the glasses and then start acting and making noise like they are having a party. The sleeper should wake up and the beer drinkers should motion for him to come to the table. He should stretch and slowly get out of bed and move to the table like he is in a stupor. When he gets to the table the narrator should start.)
SCENE 1:
NARRATOR: ‘Twas the First time I had ever
Been offered drugs,
Not a single word could I think
To say to those thugs.
(The drinkers should quietly be offering the drink, picking it up and trying to hand it to them.)
The alcohol was already
Poured to drink
Why was it so hard (sleeper rubs head and acts like he is thinking)
To even see or think.
(The drinkers lean forward coaxing him to drink
The others stood round
Coaxing me to take it.
I knew if I did, my mom (mom runs on in apron and
Would have a fit finger at sleeper and
runs off throwing
hands in the air)
My father would ground me (Father comes on and points
For years to come off stage as if to say
And I knew in my own heart go to your room.)
That it was really dumb.
When out of my mouth
Flew words that I knew
I had learned them from teachers
And parents , too.
SLEEPER: (Should speak loud so the audience can hear and he should walk
