Summary of Program------This program was written a year after 9-11 to honor those that were killed.  It could be used as a patriotic program.  It asks students what they are willing to stand for.  Such as courage and resteraint, friendship and kindness, wisdom etc.  There are scenes where children who do not want to speak can just act.  There are suggested partriotic songs, but you can use them or substitute others or delete them.  The program is all in rhyme so it is easy for children to learn.   There is also one section where you have speeches that are one liners for children that want to speak, but might have difiiculty memorizing.

Sample page one------------   (A posting of the flag ceremony would be very appropriate before this program begins.)

SONG:  The Star Spangled Banner by Francis Scott Key

We always stand as the flag goes by
I wonder if we really know why?
The flag of our country is proud and true
The colors are, of course, red, white, and blue.

SONG:  There are Many Flags in Many Lands   OR any flag song

The flag stands for our country that is strong
And what we believe is right and wrong.
Our country has been attacked from behind
Killing our citizens, many we didn’t find.

Those citizens were like you and me
They loved their country, the land of the free.
They believed that we should have a choice
And be able to speak with one loud voice.

Speak about the things we see as right
Defending them with the courage to fight.
We’ve taken a look around our world to see
Whether we need to change, or let things be.

The only change we need to really make
Remember that it is for our very own sake.
If we really want to live in a land that is free
The only ones to make it possible are you and me.

You know it can only start with me and you
With what we see, what we say and what we do.
You can make a difference in our world
And affect every man, woman, boy, and girl.
