WHAT DO YOU STAND FOR?
(By Caroline S. Mackay)

This program was written a year after 9-11 to honor those that were killed.  It could be used as a patriotic program.  It asks the students what they are willing to stand for.  Such as Courage and restraint, friendship and kindness, widom etc.  There are scenes where children who do not want to speak can just act.  There are suggested patriotic songs, but you can use them or substitute others or delete them.  The program is all in rhyme so it is easy for the children to learn.  There is also one section where you have speeches that are one liners for children that want to speak, but might have difficult memorizing.

SAMPLE

What are you willing to do and stand for?
To help make this the very best world.
Let's take a look at some things you can do
It doesn't matter really who, me or even you.

Scene:  (Two students enter on stage talking, one student is sitting off to the side playing alone.  The students come over and ask him to play with them.)

Friendship and kindness are great to share
It shows that you really, really do care.
Just cause you already have a special friend
Doesn't mean a helping hand you cannot lend.
