Lest We Forget
By Caroline S. Mackay 2006
This program was written for Veterans Day but could be used on any patriotic holiday. It covers the five different branches of the armed forces, the Marines, the Coast Guard, the Navy, the Army and the Air Force. It honors those men and women that have served our country. At the end all the wars are mentioned and how many served, how many were wounded and how many died.
It is not in rhyme.

NARRATOR 1: (comes to the mike) We wish to welcome you to our
Veterans Day Program. Veterans Day is Nov. 11th. It is a day to pay tribute to our living veterans and remember those who fought for our country. The signing of the World War I Armistice took place in a railway coach near the battle zone in France. The bugles sounded “cease firing” and the war ended. So in the eleventh month on the eleventh day at eleven o’clock am we traditionally have a moment of silence to observe this great event.
_(insert principal’s name) will now read one of President
Bush’s Veterans Day Proclamations.
.........
NARRATOR 2: (comes to the mike) Our pentagon is the building that
houses our armed services. It has 5 sides and each side represents a
part of the United States of America Armed Forces.
(The next narrators stand up and hold up their signs as they very loudly say their lines without the mikes.)

NARRATOR 4: The United States Navy
NARRATOR 5: The United States Army
NARRATOR 6: The United States Marine Corps
NARRATOR 7: The United States Air Force
NARRATOR 3: The United States Coast Guard’s purpose is to protect the
public, the environment and the United States economic and security
interests including our coasts, ports and inland waterways. They are
on the front lines of the drug war and search and rescue.
· They were established in 1915 and operate under the Department of the Navy during a war.
· They are the smallest part of our armed services and have about
40, 150 men and women serving.
· Their core values are honor, respect and devotion to duty.
· Some of the famous people that have served in the coast guard are:
Beau and Lloyd Bridges
Walter Cronkite
Jack Dempsey
Ted Turner
Arnold Palmer.
· Their motto is “Always Ready” and they are always ready to search for boats and ships that are in trouble. And they are always ready to chase those drug smugglers that try to invade our country by way of the water.
· We salute them, and thank them for their services.
