NARRATOR 1: And each evening when the colors are retired they would hear Taps.

(Narrator 1 and 2 leave while the bugler plays taps.)

BUGLER: TAPS

(Narrator 3 and 4 come to the mike while the bugler sits on the stool.)

NARRATOR 3: Many of you have heard taps. It has been played many times.

NARRATOR 4: This is the music that is played at a veteran’s funeral.

NARRATOR 3: Today we want to teach you about taps.

NARRATOR 4: The first thing you need to know is how to act when you hear taps.

NARRATOR 3: You should stand at attention and if a flag is present, face it with your hand over your heart.

NARRATOR 4: If there is no flag then you stand at attention and face the music.

NARRATOR 3: So today during the program if you hear taps you know what you should do.

BUGLER: (Stands and plays taps.)TAPS

(Students should rise and use the correct protocol.)

(Narrators 5 & 6 come to the mikes and the Bugler sits down.)

NARRATOR 5: Many of you play the piano and you know what notes are. They are like letters making words in reading. The notes tell you what to play to make the music.

NARRATOR 6: Here are the notes that you need to make the music for the Star Spangled Banner. (Holds up a copy of the Star Spangled Banner.)

NARRATOR 5: Here are the notes that you need to make the music for TAPS. (Holds up 24 notes)
