A SHORT HISTORY OF THE UNITED STATES
(Have Speaker 1 comes to a mike.)
SPEAKER 1:Our country has always been
One nation under God
Many people came here
To worship freely on it’s sod.
(Speaker 1 sits down and the chorus rises to sing the song.)
SONG: GOD BLESS AMERICA
(Speaker 2, 3 and 4 come to the mikes. They are all dressed as Indians with headdress or feathers and carrying drums made out of oatmeal boxes.)
SPEAKER 2:How (raises hand)
We the Indians were here first
The Great Spirit created our world
SPEAKER 3:He created the forest all around
There are many trees to be found.
SPEAKER 4:He created animals for us to eat
Giving us food like good meat.
(These students sit down at the front of the stage and a 4th student that does not want a speaking part brings out a campfire and they sit around it and beat the drum while the students sing this song to the tune TAPS or find an Indian song of your choice.)
SONG: INDIAN SONG (to the tune of Taps)
Great spirit come,
With beat of drum.
Journey now,
With each one,
Great spirit please.
Til each one,
Of our tribe,
Reach their tepees.
(Indians leave the stage and Columbus who is speaker 5 comes on stage. Columbus could wear a hat and a cape of some sort and knee britches and socks.))
