The Origin of  Christmas Stories
Community Version

(By Caroline S. Mackay 1989

This program was written as a community sing program.  It was used in a school and the audience was the chorus.  It has been used as a school program with each grade level doing one of the songs.  There are two narrators that introduce the songs.  The narrators talk about how stories in general started until they get stuck on all the stories surrounding Christmas.

SAMPLE OF SCRIPT:

NARRATOR 1:  We welcome you to our annual community Christmas program.
For your information we want you to know that you are the chorus.

NARRATOR 2:  (threatening to the audience with finger pointed) And if you don't do it right
the first time then (points to chorister) she will make you do it over.

NARRATOR 1:  (elbows narrator 2) That's not in the script and besides that's not nice to say.

NARRATOR 2:  (raises right arm to the square) It's the truth and nothin' but the truth.

NARRATOR 1:  Stop telling these (points to the audience) people stories.

NARRATOR 2:  (indignantly) Stories!  (stops and scratches head and asks) Just what is a
                                       story.

NARRATOR 1:  Well that's what we came to tlak about.  We came to tell Christmas stories.

NARRATOR 2:  Just how did stories get started.  Was there a ' big bang ' and the first story
just happened or was it created?  (Turns to audience and raises eyebrows)
