SAMPLE SCRIPT

CHRISTMAS AS VIEWED FROM OUTER SPACE

(By Caroline S. Mackay)

(An old professor comes on stage to one of the mikes carrying his script .)  He is the narrator and is dressed in a sloppy suit.  He goes to the mike with the music stand and puts down the script.)

PROFESSOR:                        I have come here to your planet, SHLEP, tonight because you have         `           invited me to answer your questions about our plane, EARTH.  So without                               further chit chat, if you have a question, step to the mike.  (points to mike on the                               other side)  and ask your question.  I will answer it to the best of my ability.  And                  if I can’t maybe my colleagues here (points to chorus) can help me.

(Questioner 1 sitting in the audience raises hand.)

PROFESSOR:               (points to alien 1) Yes, what is your question?

(Questioner 1 comes to the mike)

QUESTIONER 1:       We have been studying your planet through our telescopes for centuries   and we have noticed that for every revolution your planet makes around your sun it lights         up extremely bright once.  It seems to be brighter as if there are lights everywhere.  What     happens on your planet at this time?

(Professor scratches head)

PROFESSOR:              There are lights on our planet all the time.  Can you tell me the season or some   other clue?  What color are they?

QUESTIONER 1:       The lights seem to twinkle.  Sometimes they flash on and off.  During the             daylight hours they go away.  There are many different colors or sometimes they are all        one color.

(Professor stops scratching head )

PROFESSOR:  I’m not certain exactly when this time is, but the only that that I can think of       when our planet might light up is at Christmas time.

QUESTIONER 1:  (scowls)  Christmas?  What is Christmas?
